One of Beti’s final bucket list wishes was to
have her ashes spread in The Narrows.
On 8/15/23 to match her last Tattoo…

we made this happen.

Polaris Hall | Portland

A Beti Celebration

On Saturday January 8th, a special gathering was held at Polaris Hall in Portland, to Roast - Toast & Celebrate Beti. Despite all the Covid concerns, and last minute updates (which included culling the attendees to 100 instead of the original 250 guest list) the party went on and included both live and pre-recorded performances.

Originally designed to be a low key gathering, planners Joya & Kate quickly knew this was taking a form of it’s own, complete with Beti branding and swag for all.

With amazing emcees Caryn Brooks & Kate Sokoloff (reunited after a previous Live Wire gig) - both very good friends of Beti’s, the nites vibe was epic. The line up included bits from friends past and present, various sports teams members, live music, readings, her exes, video messages, a special Low Bar Tribute, laughs and tears throughout the night. Beti watched the entire nite from her most comfortable chair… ‘Pearl’ - brought in front and center especially for her. The event was streamed live thru FB. Vaccine checkers at the door reported many friends who - last minute had changed their RSVP to watch from home (thank you omicron) ended showing up after watching just a few minutes of the livestream. A live performance of Katy Perry’s “Firework” by local artist Ashleigh Flynn - got the audience on their feet waving small flickering candles and singing along.
The evening ended with a group toast - for 150+ with shots of Makers Mark & OJ.

A Girl’s Build Legacy fund was established that night, with raised funds topping $10,000 by the end of the party.

Many thanks to those who participated, volunteered, performed and contributed to this event. It was truly a night to remember.

Beti’s Babes

For nearly the past year, many of Beti’s friends and family have been helping Beti with her ‘Bucket List’. While all amazing fun, at some point, the reality of Beti’s Cancer and prognosis began to set in - not only with Beti, but with all of us.

In November 2021, this support circle was formed comprised of Beti’s closest friends, as a way to come together, offer support to Beti, her family and extended friends - and express, understand and manage our grief. What we all realized in coming together… and what Beti has also said is that each of us bring a gift that encircles her.

It is an incredible journey to work closely with Jolynn, an end-of-life Doula, and Jan, an end-of-life specialist. The shift from treatments to palliative care & eventually hospice care has been an unbelievable transformative journey and some incredible – Pure Love.

  • Jolynn moonlights for people in her community as trained End-of-Life Doula, and also a friend of Beti’s. Jolynn organized and met bi-monthly with the Beti’s Babes group to provide grief support, guidance and materials.

If you would like to learn more, you can contact Jolynn here.

  • Jan is trained as an end-of-life doula, grief work companion, and Realization Process teacher. She led the group meditations during the Beti’s Babes gatherings. Jan is available on a selected basis to teach meditation to people who are grieving.

“Who Knows Where The Time Goes” - Judy Collins

Across the morning sky, all the bird are leaving, ah,
how can they know it's time for them to go?
Before the winter fire, we'll still be dreaming.

I do not count the time.
Who knows where the time goes? Who knows where the time goes?

Sad deserted shore, your fickle friends are leaving, ah,
but then you know it's time for them to go.
But I will still be here, I have no thought of leaving.

I do not count the time.
Who knows where the time goes? Who knows where the time goes?

And I'm not alone, while my love is near me,
and I know, it will be so, till it's time to go,
So come the storms of winter, and then the birds in spring again.

I do not fear the time.
Who knows how my love grows? Who knows where the time goes?

Judy Collins Original Nina Simone Version

It is intensely painful to see that one’s future has been mostly transmuted into one’s past by the mysterious process of time. Yet, time itself is so serene and tranquil it’s hard not to think of it as ultimately benign, even as it slowly begins to draw the shroud around us, as it inevitably does.

This song captures that perfectly.
— selected by Beti as "the song"

“Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.”
